Sandra L. Rose

Choir Director / Gospel Music Historian / Show Host

Sandra grew up in Prayer Tabernacle Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Charles A. Craig,II and then Rev. David K. Craig. Her musical awareness was realized early and she began directing the choir at the request of Minister Thomas Whitfield. She studied piano under Rev. Charles H. Nicks, Jr. and was active musically, while attending school. Sandra has provided background vocals on recordings with Gospel artists such as: The Voices of Tabernacle; The Craig Brothers; Minister Thomas Whitfield; Minister Ronald Kersey; Bishop Andre S. Woods; Rev. James Cleveland; Mr. Jimmy Dowell and the St. James Adult Choir; Ms. Aretha Franklin, and Mrs. Hulah Gene Hurley. She was an artist on Detroit Remembers 1 & 2, and project coordinator and artist for the Detroit Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America’s latest project,  “Bringing It Back Home” produced by Rudolph Stanfield, Jr., and A. Jeffrey LaValley.

 

She also produced and co-wrote with Edna Tatum “The Voice” on her final project, “How Great Thou Art”. Sandra has also served as Directress for the Celestial Choir of the New Light Baptist Church; Craig Memorial Tabernacle’s Joyful Youth Choir, and the famed Voices of Tabernacle of Prayer Tabernacle Church. She was honored to serve on the music staff for the homegoing services for Mother Rosa Parks and SuperBowl XL, which featured, Ms. Aretha Franklin. Her talents as a gifted choir director have been shared across country with many groups and choirs. Sandra presently serves musically at the Historic Little Rock Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Jim Holley, Ph.D. 

 

She is the Administrator and Asst. Chapter Representative for the Detroit Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. A member of the national GMWA faculty, she instructs the class, “Parliamentary Procedure: Conducting A Meeting” and assists in facilitating the 2-session class “The History of the G.M.W.A”. 

 

Sandra was licensed to teach the Bible in 1988. She received her license to preach the good news of Jesus Christ in 1991 and was ordained in 1993 by Dr. Eugene Gray under the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc. Her musical and speaking gifts have served to assist churches and the community in presenting their worship services, conferences and other activities.

 

Sandra’s church membership is with the Greater Emmanuel Temple of Deliverance, Detroit MI, pastored by Bishop Eric F. Mitchell. 

 

Sandra's educational accomplishments include:  an Associates Degree in Business Administration (IT); a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration (Christian Studies); and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management. 

Sandra is the former editor of the Amazing Grace Newsletter (circulation 10,000) for Detroit’s Greater Grace Temple. 

 

After retiring as an IT Manager with AT&T, she worked within the Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties educating K-12 students. She served as a was a facilitator for WCCCD ContinuingEducation Youth Enrichment Series and presented workshops.  Currently, Sandra is employed by a fortune 500 company in the IT division. She is also owner of Coming Up Roses! a desktop publishing and management company. Sandra freely shares her gifts throughout the community and now on WVTC Detroit!
